A framework for classroom wellbeing, mindfulness, behaviour and learning

In the first years of primary school, teachers are helping children build the foundations for learning, relationships, identity, wellbeing and classroom participation.

At the same time, children are learning to recognise emotional responses, seek help, make safe and respectful choices, cooperate with others, navigate friendship challenges and recover when things go wrong.

Sparky and Shady helps bring this learning together through one shared, child-friendly framework.

It supports teachers to:

  • introduce mindful moments

  • build children’s emotional awareness and self-regulation

  • strengthen children’s confidence, identity and sense of belonging

  • support respectful relationships, cooperation and fair play

  • respond to big feelings and tricky behaviours in calm, consistent ways

  • guide children through conflict, repair and problem-solving

  • use shared language across classroom, playground and home

  • connect wellbeing practice with curriculum expectations and whole-school wellbeing goals.

Sparky and Shady gives young primary students a simple way to understand themselves and others, while giving teachers practical language and strategies for everyday moments at school.

Testimonial

“This program is easy to follow with minimal preparation needed. It contains great suggestions for discussions and follow-up activities. It allows the students to explore the different aspects of who they are and how they work without any kind of judgement. Letting parents know exactly what’s being taught allows the conversations and consistency of language to be continued at home. It was fun to teach and raised some deep concepts within our small group that needed to be addressed for these children. I highly recommend this program. It does make a difference!”
